Railers end four game road trip with 2-1 overtime loss in AdirondackWorcester finished 1-1-1-1 on four game road trip

Glens Falls, NY – The Worcester Railers HC (8-7-2-1, 19pts) closed out their four-game road trip with a 2-1 overtime loss to the host Adirondack Thunder (10-8-1-1, 22pts) in front 3,795 fans at the Cool Insuring Arena on Friday evening. The Railers return home for a BIG GAME SATURDAY with a 7:05pm start vs. the Manchester Monarchs as the first 3,000 fans will receive a TRAX bobble courtesy of the Telegram and Gazette.

Barry Almeida scored the only Worcester goal and Eamon McAdam was brilliant in net with 32 saves between the pipes. Adirondack scored two power play goals including the game winner by Ty Loney just 96 seconds into the overtime period as the Railers ended the four-game road trip 1-1-1-1.

Railers netminder Eamon McAdam made 16 first period saves as Worcester was outshot 16-3 in a scoreless opening frame. Each team went 0-1 on the power play as the two teams headed into the intermission with no score.

Worcester had a better second period and veteran Barry Almeida (5th) struck on the power play after Nick Saracino crashed the back of the net and snuck the puck in front for Almeida at 8:52 to give the Railers a 1-0 lead. Shots in the middle frame were 7-6 in favor of the Railers as Eamon McAdam had 22 saves through 40 minutes of play.

The Railers outshot Adirondack 11-10 in the third period but a power play goal by Pierre-Luc Mercier (5th) at 13:50 tied the score at 1-1. Thunder goaltender Nick Riopel held down the fort with 11 saves to force overtime.

The Railers thought they had won the game in the first minute of overtime as a backhand shot by Chris Langkow appeared to have gone through the net but the officials were unsure. Moments later, with the Thunder on the power play, Ty Loney (13th) won the game at 1:36 with a roof shot from in tight on the backhand to give Adirondack the home victory. After the final horn, all 36 players came together with several scrums breaking out but cooler heads prevailed.
