Skate to Success
The Worcester Railers HC flagship community program is a learn to skate program that teaches more than 2,000 fourth graders from 27 Worcester Public Schools each year how to skate. To date, the program has gained national attention and has reached over 5,000 students since its inception in 2017. Skate to Success takes place every Tuesday during the hockey season at the Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center at no cost to the students or the school thanks to our generous sponsors.
Each student receives a Skate to Success jersey to take home and are outfitted with skates and a helmet. Railers coaches, players, and staff provide guidance and one-on-one assistance as students take their first steps onto the ice. The program concludes with lunch and one last high five before boarding the busses. Each student leaves with an autographed Railers folder to take back to school and a voucher to come back and skate free of charge. For many, the opportunity to visit an ice rink, let alone skate, is a first. Students often leave the rink with a newfound excitement for the sport after trying something new for the first time.
