Wade Murphy joins the Worcester Railers HC after finishing his last season with the Arizona State University Sun Devils and going on to make his ECHL debut with the Manchester Monarchs, playing in 14 games and posting two goals, four assists, and 15 penalty minutes.
The 6-foot, 190lb Victoria, BC native made his college debut for the University of North Dakota and played two seasons (2013-14 and 2014-15), before transferring to the University of Arizona, where he finished with 31 games played and recorded nine goals, 11 assists, and 30 penalty minutes during the 2016-17 season.
Before college, the 23-year-old Murphy spent four seasons playing in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) for the Victoria Grizzlies and Penticton Vees, for a total of 172 games played, 69 goals, 112 assists, and 148 penalty minutes. Murphy served as alternate captain in his last season with the Vees, and recorded five goals, six assists, and 12 penalty minutes in 15 playoff games.
Murphy was drafted by the Nashville Predators in the seventh round, 185th overall, in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
“Wade is an offensive winger with something to prove,” said Russell. “He will earn an opportunity to regain his scoring touch and confidence in his all-around game. We believe in Wade and we are excited to help him grow and develop as a pro.”
