Worcester Railers Announce Season V Opening Weekend Block Party And Kids Takeover Celebration

WORCESTER, Mass – The Worcester Railers Hockey Club (@RailersHC), proud ECHL (@ECHL) affiliate of the New York Islanders (@NYIslanders) is pleased to announce two action-packed days of ECHL hockey, presented by M&T Bank as the team returns to the ice for Opening Weekend on Sat., Oct. 22, and Sun., Oct. 23 against Adirondack Thunder.

The Railers encourage fans to head to the DCU Center before doors open on Sat., Oct. 22 for a free pre-game block party on Commercial St., presented by Encore Boston Harbor. The event will start at 4:30 p.m. and will feature live music from Third Gear, barbecue from Off the Rails, and family-friendly activities. DCU Center doors open at 5:30 p.m.; puck drops at 7:05 p.m.

“We are eager to start the weekend off strong alongside our fans,” Railers Chief Operating Officer Michael G. Myers said. “We have built a solid team with excellent leadership and a core of returning players. We are looking forward to a great fifth season of Railers hockey.”

On Sun., Oct 23, the Railers will host their first ever Kids Takeover game at 3:05 p.m. The game will benefit CASA Project Worcester County, a non-profit directly supporting and advocating on behalf of youth in the foster care system. The team’s youngest fans will help run the show as in-arena hosts, game-day broadcasters, ice crew, and more. The DCU Center concourse will be jam-packed with kid-centric fun and games. Doors open at 2:05 p.m.

“This is an opportunity for our team to really connect with the families of Central Mass.,” Team President Stephanie Ramey said. “The Railers are proud to be a part of this community and are looking forward to doing something extra special for the kids who love the Worcester Railers.”
