Community Express- August 14th

By Paul Harris

How’s it going, Railers fans? Only 59 days left until opening night… it’ll be here before we know it! We’ve been extremely busy in the community so far this off-season and it’s only going to pick up. Trax has appeared at schools, town festivals, nonprofits, 5k’s, parks, and more. If you see us out in the community, make sure to say hi…we are always carrying giveaways! Be sure to follow @Trax_RailersHC on Instagram and Twitter and “Like” him on Facebook! Special thanks to our summer series Presenting Sponsor, People’s United Bank, and our Participating Sponsors, Feeley Dental and Associates, Polar Beverages, CBS, Reliant Medical Group, and Bay State Broker.

Spree Days– Our season ended in April and we were able to visit a bunch of elementary schools in the spring. We attended over ten spree days with Trax and our Railers HC Shootout Inflatable. These events are great – kids work hard all year for the opportunity to relax and have a fantastic end of the year celebration. These events typically include inflatables, obstacle courses, and a mix of smaller yard games like Giant Jenga or Connect Four. A few of the schools we visited were Flagg St Elementary, Elmwood St Elementary, and Tatnuck Elementary School. To get Trax to visit your school’s Spree Day or any other PTO / school hosted event – click here.

5ks– Trax, the Railers Front Office, and our Booster Club attended multiple 5ks these past few months. Two specific events were the March of Dimes March for Babies and the Cystic Fibrosis Great Strides Walk. March of Dimes sponsored one of our specialty jerseys this year, the “New England Football themed jerseys.” To show our support, we showed up to what ended up being their chapter’s largest walk ever. Some people in our office walked it while others interacted with people at our info table. Cystic Fibrosis hits close to home to the Worcester Railers family. We had interns, booster members, and staff participate in the walk at Quinsigamond State Park. We are always looking to partner with nonprofits. Railers go to Vegas!– Members of the Railers HC Front Office had the privilege of going to Las Vegas for the ECHL Hockey League Meetings in June. Here we broke into discussion groups with other members of the ECHL, as well as the SPHL and USHL. My top three highlights from the meetings were learning from Nashville Predators SVP – Community, Rebecca King, winning the Cornhole Tournament with my coworker Connor, and taking home the 2019 Community Service Team of the Year Award. This award proves hard work does pay off! We couldn’t have won it without the support from Cliff and Susan Rucker, our Front Office, our Community Partners, our Booster Club, Members, Interns, Trax, and many many more individuals. Click here for the official press release.

Town Festivals– Every neighboring town and city does something special for Independence Day which makes it hard to pick and choose what events to go to. The largest festivals we attended this past July were the Auburn Fireworks, Fitchburg Block Party, Worcester Fireworks, and the festival at Windle Field in Millbury. We got to interact with thousands of Central Massachusetts residents! A lot of these events host raffles… for more information regarding Railers HC charitable donations, click here.

Keeping Dotes Busy– We are fortunate to have a few Railers players that live nearby who help us out with community events. Holden, MA native, Connor Doherty, has joined us on a few events so far this summer, picking up right where he left off last season (2018-2019 Man of the Year). Connor has played in Railers sponsored golf tournaments, appeared at the hometeam awards show, and has spoken to members of the Worcester GANG Camp. He has also joined Cam McGuire in a couple Cam’s Corner videos! Check out this video and read about his Man of the Year award here.

Upcoming Events– Things are about to really pick up with over twenty events already scheduled for the next few weeks! Some big events coming up include Holden Days, Free Fun Friday at the Ecotarium, and Kids Fest at Wachusett Mountain. These events will have over 10,000 attendees. That’s a lot of Trax cards and stickers… For a full list of events, check out our calendar here.

That will do it for this edition of Community Express. Be sure to follow @RailersHC, @Trax_RailersHC and @PaulHarrisJr10 for more community content!
