Off the Beaten Track – May 31

Worcester Railers HC Members,

Eric Lindquist (Railers Marketing and Radio guy) checking in from the Railers HC headquarters at the DCU Center in Worcester.  With the NHL, AHL, and ECHL playoffs winding down….it gets the Railers HC closer to a regular off-season as we get prepared for opening night on October 14!

Members Update

As of 11am on May 31 we currently have 1385 members on board for our inaugural season!  There is still PLENTY of time to come on board and score some really, really, really great seats for the upcoming season…so give us a call at 508-365-1750!

Schedule:

The schedule was release a few weeks back…. A few takeaways:

  • Looking forward to reintroduce the Manchester/Worcester rivalry. – things will kick off on opening night on October 14!
  • I love calling games in Adirondack – great old barn!
  • I have never been to the arenas in Reading, Brampton, Colorado, Wheeling, and Orlando – get to check a few more off the list (I’ve seen a game in Toledo – but never called a game there!)
  • Holy 11 game home stand! (Jan 19-Feb 10)

Click HERE for the entire Railers HC schedule.

Behind the bench:

Please welcome Terry Bangen as the assistant coach of the Worcester Railers!  Terry will be joining head coach Jamie Russell behind the bench next season. Bangen has a ton of experience and I have heard nothing but great things about him.  Click HERE for the full release and/or click HERE to read Bill Ballou’s article in the Telegram. Terry has been coaching for almost 30 years which included a two-year stint with the Vancouver Canucks as an assistant coach.  Terry is a HOCKEY GUY and I look forward to be working with him in September!

New Faces:

If you have not stopped by the office in a bit…. the office has been growing!  Make sure to introduce yourselves to our Marketing and Game Ops Coordinator Katie Arsenault and Public Relations / Social Media Coordinator Tom Matthews.   Katie has a ton of game presentation experience with the Bruins, Celtics, Patriots, and Revolution… and is a huge hockey fan!  Tom is a Worcester guy came over from Worcester Magazine that knows how to write, use video, and look cool when wearing shades….make sure to follow him on twitter @writtenbytom and catch “Tuesdays with Tom” on our social media channels…. we are pretty lucky to have both… so make them feel welcomed!

Wish Community Jill well…

Community Jill took a new gig as the Marketing/Events Manager with the Lock 50 group in the Canal District.  Jill was a BIG part in helping us get boots on the ground in our first year in Worcester.  Wishing Community Jill all the best in the future and hope to see her on October 14 at the DCU Center!  – we hope to have her replacement soon….keep posted!

June 16:

The Railers HC can start signing players as early as June 16. I spoke to GM/head coach Jamie Russell yesterday and he has a list of players pinpointed to sign when June 16th rolls around.  We will make sure to have you covered on all the latest player signings on RailersHC.com and our social media channels… so stay tuned!

Worcester Hockey Alum

Former Worcester Sharks defenseman Matt Irwin still has a shot to win the Stanley Cup with the Nashville Predators.  Unfortunately, the Predators are down 1-0 to the Penguins in the best of seven Stanley Cup Final.  In the AHL, the Barracuda lost in five games to the Grand Rapids Griffins in the Western Conference Finals – which means the Syracuse Crunch and Griffins will battle for the Calder Cup.  Yanni Gourde, Matt Taormina, and Adam Comrie all play for the Crunch.

Around the ECHL

The South Carolina Stingrays and the Colorado Eagles are in the middle of the best of seven Kelly Cup Final.  Colorado won the first two games of the series at home as the series shifts to South Carolina for Games 3-5.  Former Worcester IceCat Trevor Gillies plays for the Stingrays.

Wrapping things Up

I have 136 days until opening night!!!!!!!! Spread the word! That will do it….  If you have a question…. shoot me a line at EricL@RailersHC.com.  Until next time…. HOCKEY, HOCKEY, HOCKEY…WOO!
