Guardians set to call Worcester Ice Center home in 2017-18

Worcester, MA (March 3, 2017) – The Worcester Railers Hockey Club (@RailersHC), proud member of the ECHL (@ECHL), and Railers HC President Michael G. Myers announced today that the Worcester Railers HC has partnered with St. Peter-Marian to create the Guardians first-ever MIAA girls’ hockey program which is set to begin play at the Worcester Ice Center during the 2017-18 season.

Beginning with the 2017-18 season, the St. Peter-Marian Guardians MIAA boys’ and girls’ hockey programs will play at the new state-of-the-art Worcester Ice Center, owned by Worcester Railers HC owner Cliff Rucker. The $18 million, two-sheet facility, which will also include two restaurants and retail space, is due to be completed in the heart of the Canal District in August, 2017.

“The Railers are thrilled to be a part of the creation of the girls’ hockey program at St. Peter-Marian,” said Myers. “We look forward to both the boys and girls Guardian hockey teams skating at the Worcester Ice Center as the Railers continue to promote hockey throughout central Massachusetts.”

With the assistance of the Worcester Railers Foundation for equipment and other costs associated with the startup, the Guardians will field a MIAA girls’ hockey program for the first time in the school’s history.

“We are excited about the partnership between St. Peter-Marian and the Worcester Railers,” said St. Peter-Marian President Christopher Cummings. “It not only ensures that our student athletes have access to a premiere hockey facility but also establishes a sensational community partnership. We have had significant interest in offering a hockey to our female athletes for some time. Cliff Rucker’s contribution and willingness to help us line up all the pieces to make this a reality made it all come together.”

The Worcester Railers Hockey Club, a proud member of the ECHL, will play their inaugural game at the DCU Center on Oct. 14, 2017. Full season memberships start at just $432 for 36 regular season games at the DCU Center and can be purchased by calling the Railers front office at 508-365-1750 or by visiting www.RailersHC.com.
