WORCESTER DROPS PRESEASON OPENER TO MAINE

BIDDEFORD, ME — The Worcester Railers HC (0-1-0-0) fell to the Maine Mariners (1-0-0-0) on Friday, October 9th, by a final score of 7-2. The Railers wrap up the preseason on Saturday, October 10th at the Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center. Puck drop is at 7:05 p.m.
The Mariners struck three times in succession as Wyllum Deveaux (1-1-2), Max Andreev (1-2-3), and Jack Works (1-2-3) made it 3-0 Maine 5:05 into the first period. David Jankowski (1-0-1) extended Maine's lead to four before the end of the first, while Jack Bar (1-0-1) made it 5-0 Mariners midway through the frame. The Railers and Mariners traded a pair of goals the rest of the way. MacAuley Carson (1-0-0) and Michael Suda (1-0-0) for Worcester each bookended a pair of goals from Ben Allison for Maine who scored twice to bring the game to its 7-2 final.
A span of 3:31 saw three goals for Maine to open action on Friday night. Deveaux (1st) beat Railers goaltender Paker Gahagen 1:34 into the game, followed by Andreev (1st) at the 3:11 mark and Works (1st) at the 5:05 mark. Jankowski (1st) followed suit for Maine 9:56 later as he scored to cap off an eventful first period for the Mariners. Shots in the first favored Maine 14-7.
The Mariners picked up in the second where they left off in the first as Jack Bar (1st) gave the Mariners a five goal advantage. 9:19 into the frame. Worcester answered 44 seconds later with a power-play goal from MacAuley Carson (1st) just eight seconds into the man-advantage to put Worcester back to within four. Ben Allison (1st, 2nd) punched back for Maine with two goals 3:03 apart to give the Mariners their largest lead of the evening at six. The end of the second period saw five ejections while the game ended with 86 penalty minutes. Lincoln Hatten and Matt Hobbs for Worcester, and Jack Bar, Max Andreev, and Connor Doherty for Maine all were removed from the game before the end of the second period. Shots in the second favored Maine 21-6.
The Railers took the third period 1-0, as Michael Suda (1st) scored the frame's only goal. Chase Clark and Cristian Propp for Maine each played the entirety of the third period. Shots in the third period favored Worcester 8-4.
