WORCESTER, Mass. – The Worcester Railers Hockey Club (@RailersHC), proud ECHL (@ECHL) affiliate of the New York Islanders (@NYIslanders) have been named finalists for two 2022-23 ECHL Team Awards: Community Service Team of the Year, and Most Creative Ticket Package of theYear.
Community Service Team of the Year
The Worcester Railers are finalists for the ECHL’s Community Service Team of the Year Award for the fifth consecutive season. The Railers are the reigning four-time recipient of the award since its introduction in 2019.
“Community-first is engrained in the DNA of the Worcester Railers” Chief Operating Officer Michael G. Myers said. “We’re proud to have an opportunity to give back to families and non-profits throughout Central Massachusetts and are grateful that the ECHL has recognized these efforts annually.”
Established in 2016, the Worcester Railers HC Foundation has donated more than $1.4 million and has partnered with over 750 local community organizations throughout Central Massachusetts. The Foundation aims to make the sport of hockey accessible for all and has a primary focus on youth-based organizations and food insecurity in the region.
During the 2022-23 season, the foundation donated over a quarter-million dollars to non-profits in the region, donated over 5,000 pounds of food to those in need, and welcomed more than 2,000 kids for the team’s flagship community program, Skate to Success.
Most Creative Ticket Package of the Year
The Worcester Railers are finalists for Most Creative Ticket Package of the Year for their “Celebrate the New Year with the Railers” ticket package. The Railers joined forces with the City of Worcester to create the ultimate, family-friendly, New Year’s Eve celebration. A special ticket package was created, providing game attendees with ice skating on the Worcester Common Oval, skate rentals, and hot chocolate from The Dogfather food truck two hours prior to puck drop.
“Any opportunity to collaborate with local entities and small businesses is always a win for the Railers,” Team President, Stephanie Ramey said. “We are proud of our city and enjoy opportunities to further introduce our fans to downtown Worcester. This ticket package was well received, and we hope to reintroduce it during the 23-24 season.”
The ECHL Team Awards presented by SponsorCX will be hosted during the 2023 ECHL Hockey Summer Meetings in Las Vegas on Wednesday, June 28th. The presentation will also be available for streaming on the ECHL Facebook Page at 7 p.m. ET on June 28.
