Saturday Spotlight: Drew Callin
Hey Railers fans Cam McGuire here checking in for our first “Saturday Spotlight” presented by Greater Good Imperial Brewing CO. Excited to let all of you know that over the next handful of Saturday’s we will be featuring various Railers players to recap their 2019-20 season as well as learn some more fund tidbits as to some attributes and traits you may not know about them from just watching them on and off the ice night in and night out! First up to the plate is Railers rookie forward Drew Callin!
Callin finished first on the team in rookie scoring posting 25 points (14g, 11a) in 54 games played. Callin’s 14 goals ranked tied for third overall and the club and the 25 points ranked fifth overall.
For the 6-foot-3 forward from Middleton, WI he really elevated his game about midway through December. Callin did not tally his first point of the year until November 26thand it took 17 games for him to score his first goal of the campaign on December 15th. Through the first 17 games of the season the 24-year-old had just four points (1g, 3a) and had been a healthy scratch in seven of the club’s first 23 games.
From December 18th to the final game of the season on March 10th Callin played in 37 consecutive games to end the season in which he collected 20 points (12g, 8a).
“I started playing with more confidence,”Callin said. “I started focusing on the little things that would help the team like one on one battles. Just having that mentality to work even harder next shift and not to worry what may have happened in the past. Getting ready to win the next shift on the ice one shift at a time allowed me to gain back my confidence as a whole.”
