Battle of the Badges Blood Drive at DCU Center draws record 221 units of blood
The Worcester Railers HC to make $1,500 donation to Worcester Boys & Girls Club in WPD’s honor
WORCESTER, MA – The Worcester Railers Hockey Club (@RailersHC), proud ECHL (@ECHL) affiliate of theNew York Islanders (@NYIslanders), in conjunction with the American Red Cross,is excited to report that 221 units of blood were donated during the annual Battle of the Badges Blood Drive, which was held on Thursday, August 2, at the DCU Center in Worcester, MA.
The 221 units of blood collected was one of the largest single-day blood drives in all of Massachusetts, and the largest ever collected in the city of Worcester. The 221 units will save 663 lives.
In the second annual Battle of the Badges, where donors were given a vote to cast in honor of the Worcester Police Department or Worcester Fire Department, the Worcester Police Department defeated the Worcester Fire Department 135 to 121 to capture the Battle of the Badges trophy. The Worcester Police Department will donate $1,500 to the Boys & Girls Club of Worcester, courtesy of the Worcester Railers HC Foundation. In addition, the Worcester Railers will wear a specialty Worcester Police jersey for their Guns N’ Hoses game on November 3 in honor of the police department winning.
“The Railers are thrilled for another great showing at Battle of the Badges,” said Railers HC president Michael G. Myers. “I would like to thank all of the donors that came out to participate and congratulate the Worcester Police Department for taking home the trophy for a second year in a row. The Railers HC Foundation is happy to again make a donation to the Worcester Boys & Girls club in their honor. We look forward to wearing the Worcester Police blue on Nov 3 for our Guns N’ Hoses game.”

Sargent. “Kudos to the Worcester Fire Department for an excellent showing. Along with the Worcester Railers HC, the Worcester Police Department, Worcester Fire Department, Charter TV3, DCU Center, and Massachusetts Pirates were sponsors of the second annual Battle of the Badges blood drive.
“The American Red Cross is once again humbled by the support of the community, as well as our partners, the Worcester Police Department, Worcester Fire Department, Charter TV3, the Worcester Railers HC and the DCU Center,” said Kelly Isenor, external communications manager for the Massachusetts Blood Services Region. “Those 221 units of donated blood are crucial to keeping the blood supply sufficient to meet hospital demands, here in Worcester and around the state.”
