Mitch Gillam named CCM ECHL Rookie of the Month and CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week
Gillam leads ECHL with five shutouts and has started last 12 games for Railers
Worcester, MA– The Worcester Railers Hockey Club (@RailersHC), proud ECHL (@ECHL) affiliate of the New York Islanders (@NYIslanders), and Railers HC General Manager and Head Coach Jamie Russell (@JamieRussell18) officially announced today that goaltender Mitch Gillam(@gillyg00se32)has won the CCM ECHL Rookie of the Month award for March.
Gillam went 10-2-1 with two shutouts, a 1.52 goals-against average and a save percentage of .947 in 13 appearances during the month.
A native of Peterborough, Ontario, Gillam stopped all 30 shots he faced in a 5-0 win against Wheeling on March 2 and turned aside 27 shots in a 2-0 victory over Adirondack on March 27. He allowed two goals or less in 11 of his 13 appearances while making at least 30 saves five times.
The 25-year-old is 22-14-2 in 40 appearances this season. He leads the ECHL with five shutouts, leads rookie goaltenders – and is fifth overall – with a 2.18 goals-against average and a .924 save percentage, and is fifth with 2,340 minutes played.
Gillam was also named CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week for March 26-April 1.
The rookie goalender went 4-0-0 with one shutout, a 1.00 goals-against average and a save percentage of .967 in four appearances last week.
Gillam stopped all 27 shots he faced in a 2-0 win against Adirondack on Wednesday, made 30 saves in a 3-2 victory over Brampton on Friday, turned aside 35 shots in a 4-1 win against the Beast on Saturday and made 27 saves in a 4-1 victory at Adirondack on Sunday.
Prior to turning pro, Mitch appeared in 97 career games at Cornell University posting an overall record of 47-28-17 with 11 shutouts, a 2.15 goals-against average and a save percentage of .923.
