Worcester Railers sign UMass Lowell standout Tommy Panico
Rookie defenseman to make pro debut with Railers
The Worcester Railers Hockey Club (@RailersHC), proud ECHL (@ECHL) affiliate of the New York Islanders (@NYIslanders), and Railers HC General Manager and Head Coach Jamie Russell (@JamieRussell18) officially announced today that the club has signed defenseman Tommy Panico (@tommypanico3) to an ECHL contract.
Worcester, MA – Tommy Panico joins the Worcester Railers after spending the last four seasons playing at UMass Lowell, where he skated in 31 games his senior year, collecting a career high 20 points including eight goals and 12 assists.
Panico’s 20 points tied him at eighth among defensemen in the Hockey East, and second in goals for defensemen. In his four seasons with UMass Lowell, Panico played in 115 games and amassed 11 goals and 31 assists for 42 points.
The 22-year-old Wall, NJ native spent one season with the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL before joining UMass Lowell. Panico played 52 games for the Lumberjacks and recorded two goals and 11 assists for 13 points.
Panico is expected to make his professional debut with the Worcester Railers.
In addition, defenseman Brock Beukeboom was traded to the Cincinnati Cyclones for cash considerations.
