Worcester Railers HC sign former San Jose Barracuda defenseman Patrick McNally

McNally played 94 AHL games with the Barracuda over the last two seasons

WORCESTER, MA  –  The Worcester Railers Hockey Club (@RailersHC), proud ECHL (@ECHL) affiliate of the New York Islanders (@NYIslanders), and Railers HC General Manager and Head Coach Jamie Russell (@JamieRussell18) officially announced today that the club has signed defenseman Patrick McNally to an ECHL contract for the 2017-18 season.

Patrick McNally joins the Worcester Railers HC after spending the last two seasons playing for the San Jose Barracuda of the American Hockey League (AHL).

The 25-year-old was selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the fourth round of the 2010 NHL Draft, 115th overall, and was Vancouver’s first selection in the draft.

In two seasons with the Barracuda, the 6-foot-2, 180lb, Glen Head, NY native played in 94 games, and recorded four goals, 14 assists, 47 penalty minutes, and a plus 14 rating.

Before joining the Barracuda, McNally played in 82 games for the Harvard Crimson (ECAC) from 2011-2015, and posted 14 goals, 46 assists, and a plus seven rating. He was named to the ECAC Hoceky All-League third team, All-Rookie squad, and named an ECAC Hockey Rookie finalist in his freshman season. McNally was also the recipient of Harvard’s George Percy award, awarded to Harvard’s top rookie, and was named ECAC Rookie of the Month for 2011.

In his last season with the Crimson, the blueliner led all Harvard defensemen in points, goals, assists and game-winning goals (2), and ranked 2nd amongst team defenders in plus/minus and 3rd in shots on goal (53). He led all ECAC defensemen in goals (tied), T-3rd in points and plus/minus and T-4th in assists. McNally helped the Crimson win the ECAC Championship, and was named to the ECAC All-Tournament Team, an ECAC Second Team All-Star, as well as to the NCAA All-Ivy League Second Team.

Patrick is a big get for us,” said Russell. “He is an offensive defenseman with good size. We want him jumping in the play and he will be a big part of our success on the power play. He adds experience to our back end after spending the last two years in the American League.”

The Railers now have 14 players under contract (eight forwards, five defensemen, one goalie) and are expected to announce more signings in the upcoming weeks. You can view the full roster here.

The Worcester Railers Hockey Club, a proud member of the ECHL, will play their inaugural game at the DCU Center on Oct. 14, 2017 vs. the Manchester Monarchs.
