Community Express (Sept 14 – Sept 19)

by Paul Harris

Hello Railers HC! It’s that time again for the Community Express! We are one week closer to the start of the season. 24 days left…but who’s counting!? I can’t believe how close we are to Opening Night! We released some information regarding opening night festivities…check it out HERE.

Trax and I are staying busy! Ten events to recap this week. Trax and I hit a milestone this weekend…100 community events in just over 100 days!!! Also, be sure to check out this week’s episode of Tuesdays with Tom. Tom talks with Booster Club President, Rich Lundin. Finally, I want to give a shout-out to our ticket staff! They’ve been working hard. Don’t wait – get your opening night tickets today!!

September 15th – Douglas Elementary Ice Cream Social

Trax, Connor, and I surprised students at Douglas Elem. last Friday at their Ice Cream Social. Trax helped make ice cream sundaes for the kids. Once everyone was done with ice cream, we organized a few outdoor activities. Trax and I played wall-ball, foursquare, and jackpot…I haven’t played these games in years so I was having a blast!

September 16th – Be Like Brit 5k / Out of the Darkness Suicide Awareness 5k

Saturday morning started with a visit to Elm Park for the Be Like Brit 5k. Trax got to interact with all the runners/walkers at the registration booth. He also got to high five all the participants as they crossed the start/finish line. We then surprised everyone at the Out of the Darkness 5k at Institute Park. Trax took photos with all the kids while I got to pass out stickers and pencils!

September 16th – Irish Step Dancing / College Shuffle / Treasure Valley

Next, we drove to the DCU Center to meet some of the Irish Step Dancers who were competing that morning. Trax tried to Irish Step Dance and it’s safe to say…he should stick to hockey! We then set up our table and tent on Shrewsbury St. for the College Shuffle. Busses dropped off local college kids who had the chance to enjoy Shrewsbury St. (Free/Discounted food and drink). Finally, Trax and I went back to Treasure Valley for their Scout Expo. We drove around the entire reservation in the Raptor, stopping to take photos with the kids. Scout Night at the DCU Center is Sat. Jan 20th! Don’t miss out.

September 17th – St. Mary’s Festival / stART of the Street / Northborough Applefest

It was a beautiful day on Sunday. Trax and I had three appearances. The first was Northborough Applefest. We appeared early Sunday morning at their car show, and of course brought the Railers Raptor. Trax got to sit in a few of the antique cars…they were cool…but we prefer the Raptor! stART on the street was a huge art festival on Park Ave. We stayed over an hour and still didn’t have time to say hi to everyone!! We can’t wait to return next year! We finished off the weekend at St. Mary’s Family Festival in Shrewsbury. Trax got to spend time with tons of kids playing games, jumping on inflatables, and riding on the train.

September 19th – Skate to Success

Our second Skate to Success, sponsored by Hanover Insurance, went extremely well! Tatnuck Magnet and West Tatnuck Elementary were the two schools that were given the chance to skate at the Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center. Head Coach Jamie Russell and Railers HC Forward Ashton Rome were two of the numerous instructors out on the ice helping the students.
