Worcester, MA – The Worcester Railers Hockey Club (@RailersHC), proud member of the ECHL (@ECHL), and Railers President Michael G. Myers officially announced today that TERRY BANGEN has been named the Assistant Coach of the Worcester Railers HC.  Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Bangen, 66, joins the Railers HC after spending the last three seasons (2014-17) with the Kamloops Blazers (WHL) as an assistant coach.  A coaching veteran with 29 years of experience, Bangen has also served as an assistant coach with the Vancouver Canucks (NHL) in 1996-1998 and served as the Blazers assistant coach in 1990-95 where they won the Memorial Cup in 1992, 1994, and 1995.

“Terry will definitely help the Railers win hockey games right out of the gate,” said Railers HC General Manager and Head Coach Jamie Russell. “Terry’s experience and track record working with hockey players at all levels will offer a terrific hockey mind to develop Railers players and provide them with the tools to win hockey games.”

Bangen’s lengthy resume includes scouting for NHL Central Scouting and serving as an instructor for the NY Rangers (NHL) summer development camps.   Bangen was the head coach at Thompson Rivers University for 11 years and head coach as McGill University for one season.  In addition, Terry worked with the Tri City Americans (WHL) for 10 years as the director of player personnel (2005-10) and the senior advisor to hockey operations (2010-14).

Terry was the assistant coach of the 1996 Canadian National Junior Team that defeated Team USA 5-1 at the DCU Center.  He served as the general manager for Team Canada’s U18 team that won a gold medal at the Ivan Hlinka tournament in 2001.  Bangen also won gold for Team Canada in 1994 (assistant coach U18) and 1996 (assistant coach National Junior).

The Worcester Railers Hockey Club, a proud member of the ECHL, will play their inaugural game at the DCU Center on Oct. 14, 2017 vs. the Manchester Monarchs.
