Railers Comeback Falls Short, As Royals Win 6-4.

Railers score three in the third period including two on the power-play

Reading, PA – The Worcester Railers HC (11-16-1-1, 24pts) lost to the Reading Royals (15-8-4-1, 35pts) on Monday afternoon by the final score of 6-4 in front of a crowd of 2,796 at Santander Arena. The Railers are back at the DCU Center against the Trois-Rivieres Lions on Friday, January 21st at 7:05 p.m.

Reading scored a pair of goals in the first period and kept Worcester off the board, as the first twenty would end with the Royals up 2-0. After going down 3-0 early in the second, Brennan Feasey (1-0-1) scored his first as a Railer. Reading responded with three unanswered goals, giving the Royals the 6-1 lead heading into the third. Ross Olsson (1-0-1) scored quickly into the third on the power play to make it a 6-2 game. Jacob Hayhurst (1-2-3) soon followed up with a power play goal of his own, cutting the Royals lead to just three with 16:12 left in the game. Anthony Repaci (1-2-3) would score as well in the third with just 1:38 to go, but time wasn’t on the Railers side, as the game came to a 6-4 close.

Scoring in the first opened up with a goal from Brad Morrison (4th), as he batted a bouncing puck in front to beat Luke Peressini and give Reading the 1-0 lead with 12:23 left in the first. Then, Royals leading scorer Patrick Bajkov (13th) finished a two-on-one up-ice rush from Brad Morrison to bump the Reading lead to 2-0. The Royals would keep the Railers off the board for the rest of the period and take the 2-0 lead into the first intermission. Shots in the first favored Reading 14-9.

Reading wasted no time come the second. Bajkov (14th) found the back of the net for the second time on the afternoon, finishing off another up-ice rush just 2:02 into the frame to extend the Royals lead to 3-0. Worcester got on the scoresheet for the first time when Brennan Feasey (1st) tucked home a rebound left by Anthony Repaci out in front, making it a 3-1 game with 13:34 left in the second. Reading then responded with three unanswered goals, as Jackson Cressey (5th), Brayden Low (9th) and Thomas Ebbing (7th) all scored their firsts of the game to push the Royals lead to 6-1. Worcester would not respond for the rest of the second, as the score remained 6-1 going into the second intermission. Shots favored Reading 10-9 for the second, and 24-18 for the game.

Early in the third on the power play, Ross Olsson (8th) skated out from beneath the goal line and delivered a snipe top-shelf on Reading goalie Hayden Hawkey, cutting the lead to 6-2. Worcester once again finding themselves on the power play two and a half minutes later, Jacob Hayhurst (6th) batted home a loose puck in front to make it a 6-3 game with 16:12 left in regulation. With just 1:38 to go in the game, Anthony Repaci (8th) slapped home a loose puck on the doorstep to cut the Railers deficit to just two. Despite the flurry of goals for Worcester in the third period, the comeback fell short for the Railers as Reading held on for the 6-4 victory. Shots favored Worcester in the third 13-6, and 31-30 on the game.
