Jacksonville, FL – The Worcester Railers HC (17-32-3-0, 37pts)continued on their southern road trip and suffered a 5-1 loss to the Jacksonville Icemen (19-24-5-1, 44pts)in front of 4,120 fans at the Veterans Memorial Arena on Wednesday evening.The Railers will hop on the bus Thursday before a pair of games in Greenville starting on Friday Feb 21 vs. the Greenville Swamp Rabbits at 7pm.
Barry Almeida (1-0-1) scored the lone goal for Worcester while Jacksonville scored three times in the second period, two of which were on the power-play. Jakub Skarek made 20 saves in net for Worcester while Adam Carlson made 39 in net for Jacksonville. The Railers losing streak hit a franchise high nine games dating back to January 26thwhere the Railers are (0-8-1).
Wacey Rabbit (5th) gave the Icemen a 1-0 lead at 10:40 of the first period when he redirected a point shot in the high slot past the low blocker of Jakub Skarek. Barry Almeida (14th) was able to answer the bell for the Railers jamming home a rebound with just 10 seconds left in the period after an initial shot from the half wall courtesy of Jack Macnee. The two teams were tied 1-1 after 20 minutes of play as Worcester outshot Jacksonville 17-10.
Jacksonville would grab two power-play scores in the second period first from Chase Lang (17th) at 8:52 and then Bobby Lynch (8th) at 15:36 to take a 3-1 advantage. The Icemen were able to increase their advantage to 4-1 when Mike Hedden (9th) put home a rebound with just 1:55 remaining in the second period. Jacksonville led 4-1 after 40 minutes of play as they outshot Worcester 11-8 in the middle stanza.
Chase Harrison (3rd) at 2:56 of the third period capitalized on a two on one effort to make the Icemen lead 5-1 which would prove to be the final score.

Mike Cornell and Linus Soderstrom are all with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers…. Justin Murray has now played in 42 straight games…. Dante Salituro was traded to Rapid City on Tuesday for Tyler Poulsen and Myles McGurty…. Myles McGurty made his Railers debut and wore #16…. Tyler Poulsen made his Railers debut and wore #10 and recorded two shots…. Ben Thomson led all skaters with nine shots…. The Railers are 0-for-31 in the last 10 games…. The Railers will bus to Greenville, SC on Thursday morning and will face the Greenville Swamp Rabbits Friday Feb 21 at 7pm. Worcester will play the Swamp Rabbits again on Saturday Feb 22 at 8:05pm before closing out the road trip in Charleston, SC on Sunday Feb 23 at 3pm vs. the South Carolina Stingrays.
The Railers return home for a 3-in-3 weekend on Feb 28-29 and March 1!
