Railers up to Seven Players Signed for 2019-20 season

Yesterday the Railers announced their seventh signing as forward Bo Brauer who played in 31 games for Worcester last season scoring 9-7-16 re-signed. See below for a list of all players signed for the upcoming season.

  • (F) Barry Almeida. The 2019-20 season will be Almeida’s eighth pro season and his third with the Railers. The Ludlow, MA native is the Railers all-time leader in games played (140), goals (44), assists (69), and points (113).
  • (D) Connor Doherty. Earlier this month Doherty was named Best Defensive Defenseman in the Eastern Conference by the PHPA. The 2019-20 season will be the Holden, MA native’s third with the Railers.
  • (D) Bobby Shea. The 28-year-old was out of hockey last season, but the 2019-20 season will be his sixth professional season. The Harrison Township, MI native won the Kelly Cup with the Reading Royals in 2012-13 with Barry Almeida.
  • (D) Kyle McKenzie.The 26-year-old played only played in 18 games last year for the Railers as his season was sidelined due to injury. A former National Champion with Providence College in 2015, the 2019-20 season will be his third with the Railers.
  • (F) Drew Callin.The 24-year-old returns to Worcester for his first full season after finishing his college career at Bentley University. Callin played in six games with the Railers last season scoring three goals and one assist (3-1-4). The Middleton, WI native was the Atlantic Hockey Association (AHA) Best Defensive Forward last season.
  • (F) Ross Olsson.The native of North Billerica, MA will enter his first full pro season. After finishing his career at Endicott College last year, Olsson skated in seven games for the Railers scoring two goals and two assists (2-2-4) and 16 PIMs.
  • (F) Bo Brauer.The 24-year-old was acquired by the Railers on December 31stlast season from Atlanta and finished the season playing in 31 games for Worcester scoring nine goals and seven assists (9-7-16).

Callin, Olsson, and Brauer all scored in their first game as a Railer.

What’s Going on With our Affiliates?

NHL: New York Islanders

The NHL Draft in Vancouver wrapped up about a month ago and here is a list of the players that the Islanders chose in this year’s draft.

  • 1stround, 23rdoverall, (F) Simon Holmstrom. 2018-19: HV71 (J18), 3GP, 3-1-4. HV71 (J20), 21GP, 7-13-20. HV71 (SHL) 1GP.
  • 2ndround, 57thoverall, (D) Samuel Bolduc. 2018-19: Blainville-Boisbriand Armada (QMJHL), 65GP, 9-28-37.
  • 5thround, 147thoverall, (F) Reece Newkirk. 2018-19: Portland Winterhawks (WHL), 68GP, 23-36-59.
  • 6thround, 178thoverall, (F) Felix Bibeau. 2018-19: Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, 63GP, 28-41-69. CHL Memorial Cup Champion/All-Star Team
  • 7thround, 209 overall, (F) Cole Coskey. 2018-19: Saginaw Spirit (OHL), 52GP, 31-32-63

AHL: Bridgeport Sound Tigers

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers schedule was announced on July 10th, and they will open the season on the road in Springfield, MA vs. the Springfield Thunderbirds on October 5that 7:05pm.

Since the conclusion of the New York Islanders prospects camp in late June the Sound Tigers have signed 11 players; eight forwards and three defensemen. Of the 11 signees, four of them played with the Railers last season; (F) Jeff Kubiak, (F) Yanick Turcotte, (D) Mike Cornell, and (D) Ryan MacKinnon.

From the 11 players signed only one other than the four mentioned above played in the ECHL last season and that is (F) Nic Pierog who led all rookies in goals (32) while playing with the Manchester Monarchs. The Halton, ONT native led the Monarchs in goals (32) and points (54).
